Extreme Prematurity?!

I have a book to review, and more thoughts/questions on being a Christian but I saw this earlier and had to share.

This is an article from the Sun Sentinel today titled, “Miami abortion clinic owner threw live baby away, prosecutors say.” The teenage mother was 23 weeks pregnant at the time. She bought the lie that – since she didn’t think she had the resources or “maturity” to raise a child – abortion was the best option.

So many things about this are completely horrible: the doctors’ behavior, the apparent lack of parental notification laws (?), the damage done to that girl’s body … What really got me was this part,

“At 23 weeks, an otherwise healthy fetus would have a slim but legitimate chance of survival. Quadruplets born at 23 weeks last year at The Nebraska Medical Center survived.

“An autopsy determined Williams’ baby — she named her Shanice — had filled her lungs with air, meaning she had been born alive, according to the Department of Health. The cause of death was listed as extreme prematurity.”

Never mind that the “doctor” knocked the baby off a chair, scooped it up in a biohazard bag, and threw it in the garbage. This probably had more to do with being born premature (as a result of the drugs).

Even more scary, is that this happens more often than we’d like to imagine.
