Free Bible Study Book Club

Anybody want to do a little Blog Tour Book Club … thing?

I decided I need to read through R.A. Torrey’s What the Bible Teaches again. Casually.

The chapters are concises, and I think there around 50 of them, which would make it a year-long project at the very easy pace of one short chapter each week. So that’s my plan.

It will come up here, I’m sure, whether I plan on it or not, and could spark some good thoughts and conversation.

If any of you other bloggers want to come along, we could move the party over to your place on whatever frequency of rotation suits you.

Leave a comment and let me know if you’re interested.

There’s a newish edition of the book available, with some extended thoughts and notes, but there’s a free PDF of the 2006 edition here, too. So you don’t even need to buy a book for our book club. How’s that for “no barriers”?

Whose in?

  1. I’ve looked at this book and agree that it might be fun and profitable to blog each chapter (53 of them) on a weekly (hopefully 8^) or so) basis. It fits well with my own meager blog at word.johnjschneider.com which reflects my own observations from reading the Word. So I can host weekly blogs per chapter or share the writing chores, you can email me to discuss if you like. Writing is a lot of work, so to do a quality job does take some time. But this seems like it fits well with what I want to share from the Word, with the objective that God is glorified. And as the book is based on Scripture, this objective should be attainable.

I’ll put together the first one and post it to my blog this coming week and see how it goes. Hopefully it would be worthwhile and not end up like the very cool blog coffewithcalvin.com – he hoped to make it through the entire Institutes chapter by chapter in the span of a year but stopped short in November of 2010.

A more readable pdf of the book is here: http://www.biblestudyaids.net/ref/torrey/wtbt.PDF
