24. Did Jesus tell His disciples everything? John 15:15 vs. John 16: 12

John 15:15
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 16:12
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.”
In chapter 15, Jesus doesn’t say that He told His disciples everything. He says that He told them everything He heard from the Father.
In chapter 16, He tells them that there is more for them to know, and why He isn’t telling them yet.
Kind of a weak sauce argument for contradictions in scripture, but it does open an interesting consideration on the nature of the Godhead.
One God. Three unique Persons. The idea is confirmed – without contradiction – throughout scripture, but I don’t know if anyone has the capacity to really wrap his head around it. Still, it’s fun to try.
It’s amazing to me to consider that the Man Jesus, who walked on the earth – grew from a baby, ate, pooped, sweat, bled – is at once fully God – fully aware of everything going on in the heavens, fully aware of everything He wasn’t telling His disciples, completely eternal – and at the same time fully submitted to the Father as a man under the law.
Jesus told His disciples what the Father told Him to say, and at the same time knew that there was more for them to learn.
Short answer: No
This would be my favorite contradiction ever if someone brought it up to me. They are basically asking to hear the gospel…well at least in my mind. Because this is the great thing about the gospel of John, Jesus continually tells his disciples, and at times the crowds, that he and the Father are the same. Lastly John 14-17 are some of the greatest verses in all of scripture.
P.s you should think about doing one of these on the trinity bc that could bring a fun discussion.
