I want water for my birthday

My birthday is in three weeks. I’m trying not to freak out about being 27.

I’ve gotten some great birthday gifts in the past 26 years, and there are a few things I could list that would be great to have someone hand me in the name of “Happy Birthday” this year.

But I’m not going to go there. I’m giving up this birthday – and not just because 27 seems so much older than 26.

This year, I want water for my birthday.

If you love me and think you probably would have gotten me a birthday gift …

If you dislike me but think you probably would have felt obligated to get me a birthday gift …

If you think that people shouldn’t have to worry about the water they drink …

If you think it would be cool to be a part of digging a brand new well in central Africa …

If you could possibly spare $27 even though you don’t have any idea who I am …

Clicky.

I’ll bake myself a birthday cake in three weeks, and I’ll blow out candles, and although I’m told it’s bad luck I don’t believe in luck so I’ll just tell you: I’ll be wishing/hoping/praying/thanking God for 75 people who gave $27 for my 27th birthday and rejoicing with 100 people in Africa who can finally stop walking all day to fill up dirty containers with water that’s going to most likely kill their children before they even have five birthdays.

How cool would that be?

So I’m not going to light one candle for every year. I’m going to light one candle for every person who donates – $1 or $270 – here.

Vacation Vid

A little something from our little vacation last week. Including the part where the rock looks bigger from on top than from the side.

Song: “Raining Sunshine” by Miranda Cosgrove, from the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs soundtrack.

(aye-dee-kay why it’s so small. It’s bigger on Vimeo if you wanna watch it there.)

Why some of us love plants

I saw a tweet the other day with a link that promised to explain why some of us love plants.

I like plants, so I clicked.

Great blog post about plants. There are a lot of reasons I like plants and gardening, and this is definitely one of them. Call me cynical, but I’m in youth ministry for crying out loud.

Check it out.
