Welcome to the Sunshine Club

I was hanging out with a couple of my ladies last night and one of them mentioned this email she got from a supervisor. We laughed so hard we almost peed and she offered to forward it to us. I asked if I could post it, and she said, “Absolutely.” Names have been omitted to protect the oblivious. (And yes, the clip art was at the top of the email.)

Team,

The … team has always been one of the best places to work at [company name]. Our team has had the good fortune to enjoy special treat days many times throughout the year based on the hard work and creativity of many of our associates. I truly appreciate the positive atmosphere these events inspire. In an effort to encourage and expand on future events this this, we’ve developed the “SUNSHINE CLUB,” which will be funded by contributions from the Senior Staff. The main mission of the Sunshine Club is simple: Bring a little sunshine into an otherwise routine workweek.

There’s more, but you get the idea. I’ve only seen a couple episodes of The Office, but this sounds like something what’s-his-name would do. Yes? Office fans?

Am I being hyper-cyncial or is this really weird? Does anyone work in one of these weird corporate environments? Share freaky, should-have-been-an-episode stories!

Game: Search Terms

I hardly look at my Blog Stats page except to see where people are coming from and if there are any new incoming links … so I can go harass those people.

Every once in a while, though, it’s funny (to me) to check out the Search Terms. What do people type into search engines to arrive here? Some of them are obvious, some of them are really out there.

So here’s the game. Check your Stats, and get yourself to Search Terms for “All Time.” What are the top three? Which is the most random/your favorite?

My top three (in case you can’t read that) are humility (#1 by a landslide … which makes me very proud), brain, and esther project. Random-est? “Sexy doctor appointments.” I wouldn’t recommend Googling that if you’re trying to get here, but it worked for two other people.

Your turn.

Growing Up

This post is part of a party hosted by (not the letter “P,” though I can see where you may have assumed that for a minute there) WorshipChicks. Sound intriguing? You want to go here.

Sometimes God’s patience astounds me. Reading through Judges … being forced to meditate on my history of ministry leadership … Certain things just make it really evident, and it’s pretty unreal.

I haven’t been a worship leader for very long. Just a few years. And prior to that, I had no intentions of ever becoming a worship leader. I really can’t sing, so I just never considered it. One day it was handed to me and I took it ’cause there was really no one else – I reasoned – to take it.

Not that I hold – or ever held – worship leaders in low esteem, I was just fairly sure it wasn’t “my thing.” It wasn’t a promotion to me. I wasn’t excited. I was a little nervous, actually, and well aware of the difficult task I was getting myself into.

My task was complicated by the fact that I do student ministry. I was being asked to form/develop/lead a worship team of jr. high and high school students from basically nothing. They can’t drive. Their schedules are completely at the mercy of their parents. They don’t have nice equipment. They’re just starting music lessons, if they’re taking them at all. They’re less inclined to really see the spiritual implications of everything related to serving on a worship team. And just as they start to get it – they graduate and go away to college.

Right from the get-go it was obvious that God had to show up or we were in trouble. Continue Reading…
